Words in memory of Prof. Arad,
written by the Shapira family from Modi'in, who have two sons studying in the program, and a graduate of the program. The Shapira family were involved in the appeal to the High Court regarding the submission of the program's students in the 10th grade to matriculation, a process at the end of which the Ministry of Education created the framework of "acceleration programs" and recognized the program for talented youth in mathematics as an acceleration program.
The late Prof. Zvi Arad - words in his memory
On May 23, 2011, our son Matanel received the exciting announcement that he had been accepted into the enrichment program of The Program for the Advancement of Mathematically Talented Youth Following Matanel our other boys ,Tamir and Omri joined the program as well . Since then the program, became part of our family.
We were very sorry to hear about the death of the late Prof. Zvi Arad, who co-founded with Prof. Bernard Pinchuk, long may he live, the program for talented youth in mathematics in 1982.
Looking back on these wonderful six and a half years, we owe the founders our appreciation and huge thanks for turning these years for Matanel, Tamir and Omri, into years in which they enriched their knowledge of mathematics while developing ways of thinking and experiential learning, and solved puzzles and challenges in the enrichment program;
Years in which they were privileged to advance and accelerate their studies in the three-year program, to learn in a fun, thorough, in-depth, professional way, while providing tools, methods, orderly and advanced methodologies, correct learning habits and time management in a unique and mature way.
In both programs we received cooperation, dedication and investment from the teachers, the class coordinators and the administration, who are all attentive and sensitive to Matan-el, Tamir and Omri.
The combination of studies at a high and enriching level and humanity at the level of the individual is one of the principles of the late Prof. Zvi Arad, and it is woven into the programs and is an integral part of them.
We were very happy that we were able to make a small impact and accompany the program in its difficult time, in 2015 when difficulties arose with the Minister of Education, and we were delighted that this quality program overcame this obstacle.
Prof. Zvi Arad has gone knowing that his vision and work continue and hundreds of students in the country, every year, receive the satisfaction and enjoyment of participating in the programs he has created and established.
We cherish deep in our hearts, the late Prof. Zvi Arad’s unique character, work and legacy. May his memory be blessed forever , and may he rest peacefully with the righteous and pure.
You in these sad days,
Eilat, Roni, Matanel, Tamir and Omri Shapira (Febuary, 2018)
